Sump Pumps

What is a sump pump?

A sump pump is commonly found in the lowest part of a home, such as a basement or crawl space. Its main function is to keep your home from flooding.

How a sump pump can protect your home.

During a rain storm, if the water flows into the pit, your sump pump will be activated by the pressure on the sensor or float valve. Once activated the electric motor will turn on an impeller to move the water though the pipe in the basin.

Repair or Replace

If you are thinking about repairs vs. replacing, here are 4 tips that will help you make your decision!

  1. A sump pump has a life expectancy of roughly 10 years. If you are nearing or over its life expectancy, it might be better to replace it.
  2. If your sump pump doesn’t have a lid, it could be forming a clog. This could be a repair job that will need to be checked and cleaned by a professional plumber.
  3. Are you hearing noises? Most of the time, this is a motor issue and it can be repaired or new motor installed. If the noises are more are have a harsh grinding or rattling noise, disconnect the pump and call a professional plumber to fix the problem.
  4. If a storm causes your sump pump to lose power, it can be a simple fix. Try unplugging your system and plugging it back in or check the fuse box to see if the circuits have been tripped.
